Needed air in the tires - big time! The back tire was semi-flat and the front one was totally flat. I couldn't bike reasonably above the first 6 gears.
Now that this has been fixed, I got to the grocers in significantly less time; got to go up to the 11th gear, and had a much smoother ride. I love my bike again!
