The drive down was kind of quiet but friendly. We got to the next meeting point just in time, which was good. The first half of the day was spent on HR stuff, benefits, policies, codes of behaviour, AND a really nice surprise of a $300 gift certificate to Suzy Shier as a wardrobe starter (or, a wardrobe extender for me!) I'll try not to use mine up all right away... I could definitely use some better winter and spring stuff later on next year.
Lunch was pretty good, casual talk throughout. My salad with shrimp was particularly nasty with over-ripe orange "segments" (read chunks), giant tomato pieces that were unwieldy, a salad dressing that was too spicy and strong with no actual flavour to it, and nasty big chunks of carrots. When a restaurant is trying too hard to do fusion dishes, and it really should only be a steak and sandwich place, it's a bad scene.
Anyhow, after lunch we went back for a short while of procedure training - mostly common sense stuff about customer service and how to ensure everyone is happy. The guy who trained us looked uncanily like Mr Big from Sex and the City - even had his same eyebrow manerisms!
Now, I'm going to take Chris out to Japanese food for diner, then come back home, wash out my hair and re-do it for tomorrow, maybe go rent a movie or something for the evening. Must do laundry. Tomorrow is more of the same, but in Edmonton with an area manager, Thursday is the meeting with the branch manager (and gaming!), Friday I do "regular" work and maybe go camping for the weekend!
Will now go saran-wrap the cheese, reshuffle the contents of my purse and enjoy my last edition of Rolling Stone.
