Tuesday picked up the girls, went to register for the conference, then we came home. They unpacked, and we went out to the Chateau Laurier for the reception. Reception was nice, open bar, tons of appetizers. Carmen ate so much dip, it was hilllarious. We didn't mingle too much, talked to my old supervisor JoAnne, and some other Carleton people. We talked to some guy from Poland for a while too. After the reception, went walking in the market, then had desert at the Courtyard restaurant. Had Creme Brule (my fave) with a "long" espresso. Long espresso's are regular espressos with a little bit more water - say 20 to 50% more. They taste just as good, because the water goes through the coffee and filter et al. Well, they frigging gave me a double, and stupid me, though that was a great idea, and drank it all.
Tuesday night didn't sleep.
Finally got exhausted at 3:30 am.
Woke up at 7 am to go jogging with Jody.
Uhg.
Conference was pretty good for the four days. We saw lots of good presentations and papers, but didn't meet quite so many people as other conferences. Hung out with some students, which was very cool, especially one girl I met at the grad conference in Vancouver in January. We went to Social for dinner (YAY!) and hung out on some patios. Didn't get to go dancing or out to any clubs/concerts...was hoping to see Beth Orton but the show sold out. ARGH. Oh well, have two other major concerts this month.
Our presentation went really well, not a single glitch, and about 30 people came, some specifically for our presentation (they left afterwards), including my dad, who took pictures (cute!).
Well it's been a good week and a bit here, did lots and lots of stuff (change of the guards, tour of Ottawa, sound and light show on the parliment, market, shopping, BBQ with my supervisors, a couple lunches, museum of civilizations, and tons more smaller things), but I'm really glad I'm going back home. Didn't get to see Kalgash (left tons of messages at his place... dunno what happened). Did see Andre yesterday, which was good. We chatted and stuff, NOTHING happened (which is very good), and he told me about his girlfriend and stuff, but hmmm, how to put this, he still looked damn fine, and if situations were different, well, situations would be different. Anyhow, that's all "supposed's" so that's irrelevant. Anyhow, had a good time, and I'll leave it at that.
Going to take it easy today, head back around 6 pm, and arive in Edmonton at midnight, will be greated by my honey, then tomorow we'll be playing hookey for the whole day, gone to the beach. Friday back to work, and then go out for dinner or something in the evening. Saturday we're supposed to go golfing, then to the dance social, which will be nice (no more old geezers!), Monday we have our big monthly meeting, and Tuesday I have math group again. We'll try to move some stuff on Wednesday because the cable guy is coming to the new house on Thursday, and finish moving through the rest of the month.
It's been a fun time in Ottawa, way better than last time - business-wise, but again, glad and anxious to be going back home.
