Anyhow, they finally left, and I got my appartment back for like a nanosecond, because Chris stayed over and then we packed up to go camping the next day. Handed in work in the morning, packed up the car, then took off to go South. The campground was about 5 hours drive away, which was totally do-able and not frustrating at all, thank god, and we set up camp within an hour of getting to the site. The site was great, it's called the Badlands, which is basically like a desert with a wierd canyon formation that sort of appears out of nowhere. Beautiful and rather alien landscape. After we set up, we started a fire in the pit, had hot chocolate and toasted marshmellows, then after we went for a short hike up a steep hill in the dark to go watch stars for a while. Really really nice.
Next morning, woke up early, made breakfast and then cleaned up, then went hiking through the Badlands, both through the trails and then through the area full of hoodoos (tower like stone structures) and hills (which we'd climb up and then slide down on our butts - tons of fun!). It was great. We got back to camp not too late for lunch, had soup and sandwiches, then played cards for a while in the tent and chilled out because we were beat from the heat and the walk. After a short nap, woke up again, then climbed another hill to a plateau where Chris flew his stunt kite - rather, flew it into the ground. So, given that other toys of Chris' have chased and tried to kill me before, I went for a short walk, but then dropped my travel mug, went to get it (fell it a thicket of thorns, of course) then sat on a hill and watched as Chris tried to get the kite to work. After he finally gave up on that, he joined me and then we went for a short hike again. The weather was starting to turn so we went back to the camp, made dinner and cleaned up the site in case it started pouring. We ate the spaghetti super quick then it started to rain so we went in the tent and went to sleep.
Sunday morning it was still raining, so we went to the service center for breakfast instead of cooking it, and then went to the bus tour pick up only to find out we had walked the tour the other day. So we left the site and headed to the Royal Tyrell Museum which is world-famous for dinosaurs and paleontology. It was great! They had all these scary looking sea creatures in the Cambrian era. They had model mock ups at 12 times real size and they were super gross! We drove out after a few hours and had dinner on the way home, then unpacked and I watched the rest of Sex and the City season 3 (finally!) - good stuff.
So that's what I've been up to this last week.
Now that I have my life back, I should be able to keep this updated more often.
